Equipment maintenance and membrane preservation under temperature changes

2025-09-22

Whether running or saving, it is necessary to pay attention to temperature:

  1. During operation:

closely monitor changes in inlet water temperature and adjust expectations for water production and quality accordingly. Regularly record operating parameters, such as a 10-15% decrease in water production or a significant increase in pressure differential, which may indicate the need for cleaning or inspection.

  1. Short term shutdown (less than 48 hours):

The RO inlet water flushing system should be used to remove air, and this operation should be repeated every 12 hours to prevent microbial growth.

3.Long term shutdown (greater than 48 hours) or storage of membrane components: protective solution (such as sodium bisulfite solution) must be used to soak and ensure that the membrane components are always in a moist state. The best storage temperature is between 5-35 , freezing is strictly prohibited, and direct sunlight should be avoided.

Understanding the impact of temperature on reverse osmosis membranes can help us better use and maintain pure water equipment.

Low water temperature and decreased water production in winter are normal phenomena, so there is no need to worry excessively. Just pay attention to whether the equipment pressure is within the allowable range.

In summer, the water temperature is high. Although the water production is impressive, it is important to pay attention to changes in water quality and prevent damage to membrane components caused by excessive water temperature.

Best suggestion: Stabilize the operating temperature of the equipment within the range of 20-30 , which can ensure high water production, good desalination rate, and long-term stability of the membrane.
