What are dry and wet RO membrane?

2025-08-29

Advantages of wet reverse osmosis membrane components

  1. Wet reverse osmosis membrane components generally undergo performance testing before leaving the factory, ensuring that the performance of each membrane component meets the standards and eliminating defective membrane component products.
  2. The initial performance of wet reverse osmosis membrane elements is superior, and after on-site installation, the best performance of the membrane elements can be achieved through simple flushing, saving start-up time and flushing water sources.
  3. The basic performance of wet membrane elements in reverse osmosis is generally superior to that of dry membrane elements, that is, the desalination rate and water production of membrane elements are slightly superior.

Disadvantages of wet reverse osmosis membrane components

  1. Wet membrane components require protective liquids or other protective measures, and the membrane components need to be kept moist and free from microbial contamination at all times.
  2. Due to the wet state of membrane components, it is best to use insulated vehicles for transportation below freezing point in winter or store them in a location above freezing point upon arrival at the destination.

Advantages of Dry Reverse Osmosis Membrane Components

  1. The manufacturing technology and equipment of dry membrane components are relatively complex, but dry membrane components do not require protective liquids or other special protective measures, are lightweight, have relatively low transportation costs, and have a longer storage time.
  2. Dry membrane components, due to their lack of moisture, do not require special vehicles for transportation below freezing point in winter, making transportation convenient. At the same time, they also have low requirements for storage conditions.

Disadvantages of Dry Reverse Osmosis Membrane Components

  1. Before leaving the factory, membrane components undergo random inspections, which cannot guarantee that the performance of each membrane component will meet the standards. There is a possibility of defects in the membrane components that leave the factory.
  2. After the membrane components are installed in the system, their initial performance is low, and they need to be soaked and rinsed for a long time to gradually reach their optimal state, wasting time and rinsing water sources.
  1. The basic performance of reverse osmosis membrane elements, namely water production and desalination rate, is generally slightly lower than that of wet membrane elements.
